Olive oil of Catalonia
Catalonia and olive oil have been going hand in hand for over 1,000 years. The oldest olive tree in Catalonia is in Ulldecona (Tarragona), and was planted 1,500 years ago (see article below).
To the north of Barcelona, Catalonia with its foothills of the Pyrenees has numerous microclimates in which the optimal conditions exist for growing grapes and olives. The taste of olive oil from northern Spain differs compared to its southern companions. Catalan olive oil often tastes a bit milder and often does not have the spyciness in the finish.
